Well, officially for us, the weekend is not over. Jason will have Monday’s off for the rest of the semester so while most of you are busy back and work and school, we’ll enjoy a little extra family time. We have a few places to go this morning and then this afternoon Jason and Alaina are going to go out while the boys sleep and I get some much needed work done. The Digi Shoppe changes ownership on February 1st and the Shoppe is celebrating February 2-4 with sales, chats, and challenges. I am hoping to have some new goodies done for that!
Okay, back to the weekend. Sooo fun! Jason had to work Saturday morning so the kiddos and I just had a really laid back morning. I did some scrapping and the kids watched Dora. After Jason got home we wavered back and forth about going to Lincoln. We knew the weather was supposed to get bad but it wasn’t supposed to start until after dark so we decided to go for it.
On our way there we saw the most AMAZING site...I never would have thought that this would get me excited.
When we got to Lincoln, we went to Old Navy. It is VERY difficult for me to live over an hour from Old Navy. Just doesn’t seem right. We had never been to this one (the ONLY one) in Lincoln. It was in this nice up-scale shopping area in a nice part of town. However, I think that whoever designed it had summer on his/her mind because the shopping center is the cute little cluster of boutique-ish shops that you have to walk outside each time you want to another store. Sure, great for summer but in the middle of winter with three little kids …not so much fun. Old Navy was our one and only stop. Jason didn’t want to go at all but I talked him into it. Good thing I did because he walked out of the store with more than anyone! He was in desperate need of new pants and since they were having massive sales, he was willing to “look.” I think he ended up buying six pairs! LOL! But, they were his kinds of prices. I don’t think he paid more than $6 for any pair! In fact, we walked out with 6 pairs of pants for Jason, a shirt, sweater, leggings, and tights for Alaina, and a pair of jeans and shirt for me and our bill was just over $50. Not bad, huh? Here’s what I got:
I really liked these:
but then I saw that the were an ultra-low waist and in the last few weeks I just have seen one too many people who are sitting down and showing everything your stereotypical plumber seems to enjoy showing off. No thank you. I have always worn my pants lower than most (when I was in high school I had to buy guy jeans so that they wouldn't be up around my waste) but I cannot get into this ultra-low stuff. Too bad -- I needed a new pair of cargos and they were only $6!
It wasn't much, but since I so rarely shop for myself these days it is nice to come home with something for me. We had a blast in the store though. The lady in the dressing room must have thought we were crazy. She opened the handicapped room for us so ALL FIVE of us could be in there. Alaina was stripping down before the door was even closed (trying on clothes is one of her most FAVORITE activities!) After the excitement of that wore down Alaina and Caleb were busy throwing their soccer balls they had picked up around. Levi got hit three or four times but he survived J Here’s this crazy little family of ours:
And here is Alaina picking out clothes that are way too big for her!
Our plan was to find an Indian restaurant to go to for dinner. After we left Old Navy it was only 3:00 so we decided to head over to the Children’s Museum. We have a membership so it doesn’t cost us anything to hang out for an hour or so. The kids LOVE it there and it was nice to just be inside and be warm.
After the museum we found an Indian restaurant to go to. It didn’t open for another fifteen minutes so we hopped across the street to the coffee shop and warmed up. Then we went to eat. We were quite surprised at how nice the place was. By the time we left the place was totally PACKED! And the food was soooo yummy! Finding good Indian food in the States is a hard thing to do. I had my favorite Chicken Tikka Masala and Jason had Chicken Vindaloo. Our waitress could learn a few things about serving tables though! She never once came back to our table to ask how we were or if we wanted anything else (which I did!) She didn’t even come to bring us a check. We just started putting coats on and getting ready to leave. Then she comes up and says, “Getting out of here quick, aren’t you?” Um, lady, we’ve been here for over an hour and we haven’t even seen you! Oh well, maybe she was having a bad day.
The drive home, which should take an hour and fifteen minutes, took us almost three hours. The snow was coming down and the roads were slick. Now, I will admit if I were driving we probably would have gotten home a little sooner, but I figure I’d rather have Jason be overcautious than end up in the ditch. So, a long day!
When we got home we had an email saying, “The State Health Department has issued an isolation & quarantine for Central City due to the high number of Influenza A cases reported in our area. The State Department cannot “demand” that a church (a private organization) close, but they “strongly recommended” we follow their advice. If people try to come to church, they will likely find a sign on the door from the state department suggesting they not enter. So there will be no church activities tomorrow morning.”
So, even though there was no church we did get to wake up to something exciting:
The kids were soooo excited for the snow. So after Jason and Alaina served us up a nice pancake breakfast
He took the kids out to play. Caleb never made it to the snow last weekend so this was his first experience.
He sat there most of the time picking it up and then throwing it! Later, Jason helped the kiddos build their first snowman.. Soooo sweet!
For lunch we had one of dorm girls come over. I made my moms traditional Sunday lunch -- roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn, and rolls. I think we had that 48 out of 52 Sundays a year growing up. My dad always made us stay dressed up in our church clothes and we would eat in the dining room with the good china….even as kids. It is one of my fondest memories of growing up and it has been fun to be able to finally enjoy it as our own family. After lunch Alaina monopolized Esther’s time insisting that she play games and Polly Pockets with her. So fun to have people over!
Last nigh was pretty laid back. I did my two LO’s for the Amazing Digi Scrapper Race, updated my blog header (do you like it? All that yummy stuff is from Catscrap!) and got caught up on a few other things. Then games, bedtimes routines, cuddles, and kiddos in bed. What a fun little life I have!
This was challenge #5 for ADSR ~ TO scrap a page about a book, etc.
