Yea! I can't believe it is Friday already. That means I just have to get through today until we have three family days! I love the weekends...time to just be together and take things a little slower. I love the mornings when I invariably am woken up my little people squirming in my bed. When Alaina and Caleb wake up in the morning they love to come get in our bed with all their "things" and cuddle with us. Caleb is actually a wonderful little cuddle bunny -- he lays still and holds his Elly and sucks his thumb and only moves if he wants to lean over and plant one of those wonderful little kisses he likes to give. And then there is Alaina. For those of you who actually know her, you can imagine how long she stays still. About 1.2 seconds. It as if she literally cannot be still or quiet for more than a moment. She is so full of life and spunk that I guess she feels she needs to keep going or she might miss out on some part of life. It makes sweet morning cuddles a little difficult, don't ya think?
Anyway, let's talk about kids and their "things." Since Alaina was about 4 months she has been very attached to her blanket. It just happened and one day we realized it was her "item" and she always has to have it to sleep. We did make the wise decision early on that it didn't come out of the bed very often and it NEVER went places with us unless it was a trip. Caleb became attached to his ugly green elephant (Elly) when he was about 1 1/2. He sucks his thumb ONLY when he is holding Elly. Seriously, like Pavlov's dog, he is conditioned. Touch Elly thumb in mouth. I have NEVER seen him suck his thumb without Elly.
So, we were okay with the one special sleep item for each kid. No problem, right? Well, then when we moved to the cold I decided that I would get Caleb a blanket since neither kid will sleep under the covers (two years of sleeping in Malaysia with no air conditioning will cure most people of a need for covers...fortunately all the master bedrooms had A/C so I still sleep nested under a large comforter). So, a blanket and an Elly for Caleb and a blanket for Alaina. Then came Christmas and life got out of control. The sleeping "things" is crazy. Now Caleb wants his Elly, his blanket, his little pillow from Grandma, his praying frog, a blue teddy bear, his Diego doll, and a car or two thrown in for good measure. It isn't so bad at night but in the morning when he wants to come cuddle ALL the stuff has to come with him. You should see him try to carry all of that stuff to our bed. It usually takes two or three trips. Alaina is just as bad...a blanket, sometimes this HUGE pink fluffy blanket from Nana, a little pink pillow, a pink teddy bear, and a small pink lamb. So you can imagine what our bed looks like in the morning! I am happily sleeping when the troops roll in with all their gear and my bed suddenly becomes a small toy store. Kids...you gotta love 'em :)

No big plans for the weekend, just lots of little things. I have a hair appointment tonight (it has been WAY too long since I have had a cut and color due to the fact that I cannot stand finding new hairdressers. I don't trust many people with my hair and so when I move someplace new I put it off for as long as I can. But my hair really needs a trim, my color needs some life, and I need the few hours by myself with a good scrapping magazine :) Sometime this weekend I need to get ready for Alaina's birthday on Tuesday. We are celebrating as a family on Monday since Jason is off and on Tuesday he has to work and Alaina has school. But I have a few things to get for her, food to shop for, treats to plan for school, etc. I also have a bunch of scrapping related stuff I want to make a dent in this weekend. I have some fun new ideas and can't wait to see how they come out!

You know that new office chair I was telling you about? Well, apparently some other little people think it was a gift for them
And here is one of the Valentine's Day crafts we have done -- this one was super simple! We just printed some hearts out on paper (1 big and 4 small for each "person") then tied ribbon for the legs and arms. Yes, I know my "arms" look more like earrings but we ran out of ribbon!. Alaina had so much fun playing with her "people" all day!
