...about Christmas coming. Seriously, I have done NOTHING about it. I haven't shopped for one gift and to be honest, I haven't even really thought about what I was getting anyone. Usually I am the one with zillions of ideas and plans and projects. But not this time. Now I LOVE Christmas. I love the decorations and the food and the music and the whole over-the-top thing in stores. But you know what I don't love? The STUFF. The obscene amount of stuff that you end up with that you don't need. Of course, much of it is nice and it is all appreciated! BUT, I don't need anything else. Well, unless you want to buy me big stuff like furniture ;) But it is the little stuff that comes your way at Christmas. Usually I love it all. But I don't really need anything. And I definitely don't need MORE stuff. The kids don't really need more toys (although I know they will love everything they get). So, I guess my denial about Christmas and shopping and stuff really just makes me realize that once again, I need to PURGE my house. Get rid of stuff. More stuff. Now mind you, we don't have a lot of stuff. We live in a tiny little apartment and we are pretty simple people (unless we are talking about my techy gadgets and then I cannot claim simplicity!) But over time the toys take over and little bits and bobs start to overwhelm. So this weekend when we are off for FIVE days I think I will do some cleaning out. And sorting. And getting rid of stuff to make room for the Christmas stuff that will inevitably come our way. Ugh.
Speaking of stuff that we don't need...I now know why I am glad that we don't have TV. We have A TV and we have a DVD player, but we do not have TV hooked up. Just doesn't interest that much and if we had it I would probably watch it so it is easier just not to have it. But the dorm girls family room has Direct TV and it just got hooked up (yep, three months into school!) and Alaina watched a few shows in there last week. She really misses Playhouse Disney from Malaysia so I thought we could try to find some of her shows. Well, I think that is the end of that. First of all, some of the stuff they claim to be children's cartoon (I'm talking Nick Jr here) is soooo completely inappropriate for kids. Scary mean people. Yuck. Not for my kids. I can handle Dora and Barney if I have to, but those yucky people? No thanks. And I really don't need my daughter coming in and saying to me, "I want an Ariel talking kitchen for Christmas." Excuse me? A WHAT??? Commercials. We did NOT have them in Malaysia and I could do without them. Way to teach our kids materialism at such a young age!
Okay...off to start my day. I have a lot going on...nothing big, just lots of little stuff that I need to get done. A few LO's before I go..
Oh WAIT! I can't believe I forgot to say this last week! One day last week I took a nap (which I NEVER get to do!) When I woke up Jason told me that someone from Scrapbooks Etc. wants one of my LO's for their April issue! Yea! I absolutely ADORE this magazine and so I am soooo excited to be in it!
Okay, now for the LO's...
This is MandaBean's fun COME ON GET HAPPY kit. I just love the bright and fun colors!
This one was fun..I was going through some pictures that I just moved over from our desktop and I had never seen these before! I used more MandaBean stuff here...this time her MANDA PANDA kit (and paper from Come on Get Happy). Stamped alphas by Michelle Coleman and stitched border by Zoe Pearn.
This one may have to go on my record for fastest LO...I think it took me about ten minutes! I used Meredith Fenwick's SEASON OF LOVE kit (isn't that glitter heart and word art awesome??) I also use Michelle Coleman's decorative edges and flourish from her Boho Chic kit. These pictures were from our anniversary last December (and no, I have not thought about anniversary gifts either!)
Okay, off to get things done. Have a great day!
Good for you for taking a stance on the TV thing! Wow - that would be so hard, but I agree with what you are saying - there are not so many good cartoons anymore. We even watched Cars last night and it said he** two times - yikes - what is up with that? Anyway - good luck with your purging and hope you figure out some of your gifts!!!
